City Campus

Most of the nodes of the CityLab testbed are located at the City Campus of the University of Antwerp.

Central Rooftop Locations

Node 2 on top of the 'Universitas' building.

These nodes are located on the rooftops of buildings located between the M-Building and the Prinsstraat. Because of their location, these nodes have a larger range but offer little to no street coverage.

Universitas (node2)

This node is located on the highest rooftop of the 4-storey 'Universitas' building. It has Line-of-Sight to node4 and (quite a bit further away) node3.

De Meerminnen

Node 3 in the Sint-Jakobsstraat.

Node 4 near the entrance of the 'Meerminnnen' building.

Node 5 in the Princesstraat.

Three nodes are deployed near Building M (Meerminnen) of the University of Antwerp. Together these three nodes cover the Sint-Jakobstraat and part of the Princesstraat. A (WiFi) connection to other nodes is also possible.

Lange Nieuwstraat (node3)

This node is located at the far-end of the M Building (Meerminnen) at the City Campus and is placed approximatively 4 meters above the street and has a direct Line-of-Sight to node4 and further away node2.

Princesstraat (node5)

This node is located in the Princesstraat, approximatively 40 meters away from [[#node4|node4]. It is installed roughly 3 meters above the ground above the exit of a garage. It has Line-of-Sight with node4.

Grote Kauwenbergstraat

Node 7 in the Grote Kauwenbergstraat.

Node 8 near the passage to the Inner Square.

Node 12 underneath the 'UAntwerpen' sign.

Grote KauwenBerg (node7)

This node is located on the Grote Kouwenbergstraat in between node2 and node8. It is placed approximatively 4 meters above the street and has a direct Line-of-Sight (and WiFi connection) to [[#node12|node12]. Although it is located within 20 meters of node8 it does not have a WiFi connection to that node because there are a few concrete walls in the way.

This node is deployed at the street-side of the passage leading from the Grote Kouwenbergstraat to the Inner Square of the City Campus. It is installed roughly 5 meters above street level and has a direct Line-of-Sight to node9 and node12. Since the entrance to the Inner Square is closed at night using a large metal fence, the wireless connection between node8 and node9 (located at the other side of the passage) may deteriorate during the closing hours of the University.

This node is deployed underneath the large 'Unversity of Antwerp' sign near the rear-entrance of the University and the Agora Café. It has a direct line of sight to node9 and node7. Moreover it is located within 15 meters of node16 and should therefore be able to establish wireless connections to that node as well.

City Campus Inner Square

Node 9 on the Inner Square near the passageway to the Grote Kauwenbergstraat.

Node 33 in the South-West corner of the Inner Square.

Node 34 in the North-West corner of the Inner Square.

Node 35 in the North-East corner of the Inner Square.

Node 36 in the South-East corner of the Inner Square.

There are five nodes located on the inner square of the City Campus: one node in every corner plus one near the passage to the Grote Kauwenbergstraat. These nodes are located 60 to 80 meters apart and (mostly) have line of sight to one another. Because of the trees on the square, the quality of the links may vary with the season.

This node is deployed at the edge of the Inner Square of the City Campus near the passage leading to the Grote Kouwenbergstraat. It is installed roughly 4 meters above street level and has a direct Line-of-Sight to node8, node33 and node34. Since the entrance to the Inner Square is closed at night using a large metal fence, the wireless connection between node9 and node8 (located at the other side of the passage) may deteriorate during the closing hours of the University. Building K

Nodes 17, 18 & 19 at the Parking Entrance of Building K.

Node 20 on the Roof of Building K.

The nodes deployed near Building K form a multihop WiFi path between the nodes at the Agora Café and those deployed near Building R. Nodes 17, 18, and19 are used to 'bounce' the WiFi signal though the passage between the Vekestraat and the Inner Square of building K. Because of the odd angles and the amount of concrete (and metal rebar) used to build this passage, this requires three nodes. Node20 (located on the rooftop of Building K) is then used to link the Square of Building K to the nodes on the roof of Building R.

Middelheim Campus

Node6 in the Server room at the 2nd floor of Building G.

Nodes 70 to 74 on the 2nd floor of Building G.

A number of nodes have been deployed indoor at the Middelheim campus of the University. These nodes are placed in close proximity to one another to allow testbed users to test & fine-tune their setup before running their tests on the nodes at the City Campus. Since these nodes are mainly for testing purposes, testbed users are allowed to run WiFi tests during the day. Do bear in mind however that there are students working (and studying) in the same area where the nodes are located and that they too would like to be able to use WiFi during the day. Therefore please act responsibly and don't perform any tests that will keep the channel busy for a long time (such as running iperf for hours on end).
